5 Kid-Friendly Educational Vacations

Are you sick of going to the same place for vacation each year with your kids? Do you want them to have more of an educational experience so that the trip will benefit them in the long run? We’ve hand picked some ideas for a fun but also enriching family vacation.

The Greenbrier in West Virginia

This historic landmark resort comes with its own private underground bunker that you can take a tour of to learn about our nation’s Cold War strategy. The underground dugout was designed to house and protect the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the case of a nuclear attack on Washington, D.C.

After your tour, the resort also offers mountain biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf and the resort’s Off-Road Driving Adventure.

Museums in Atlanta, Georgia

If you’re looking for a spot with some hands-on museums that your children will love, Atlanta is the place to go.

The city offers the World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, CNN Studio Tours, Zoo Atlanta, Center for Civil and Human Rights, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and the College Football Hall of Fame.

Admission to all of these museums can get pretty pricey, so Atlanta offers the Official Atlanta CityPASS for $75 per adult and $59 per child. Considering that the Georgia Aquarium is around $40 a person alone, this CityPASS is a great deal.

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Hawaii

This resort offers the Enrich Volunteer program, which gives your family the opportunity to give back to the community while also learning all about gardening, animals, and protecting its ocean.

The program has a gardening section where you can work with Hawaii’s native plants in the National Tropical Botanical Garden. By weeding, tending to the flower beds, and breeding plants, you can help maintain Hawaii’s beautiful nature.

Learn with your family about how to protect the ocean by cleaning up the beaches and helping keep the land beautiful and safe for everyone to enjoy.

If you have an animal lover in your group, then they will love cuddling and playing with all of the abandoned dogs and cats at the local Humane Society.

Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas

If you’re wanting some alone time with your spouse, this is a great resort for that balance of kid/adult time you’re looking for. While you guys hit the spa, your kids can take culinary lessons at the program the resort offers, COOKS@PLAY. Your children will experience kneading, whisking, rolling, measuring, and maybe even some airbrushing or chocolate techniques.

By the time you and your family gets home, maybe your kids can start cooking dinner, or at least helping.

Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming

If you want your kids to get out into the fresh air and see some beautiful animals that they’ve probably never seen before, you need to take them to Yellowstone.

Take a private tour or just go exploring on your own to see lakes, canyons, mountain ranges and the Caldera, the largest volcano on the continent. If you’re lucky, you’ll find some grizzly bears, elk, wolves, and bison. Be very careful – this is not a theme park. You can get hurt if you’re not wise.

Wherever you are, make sure that you always know where your kids are located in case you get separated in an unfamiliar area. Attach Scout GPS & Bluetooth  Tracker to your child’s bag or belt loop so that you can track them from your smartphone. For more information, go to findmyscout.com.
